About Uniqlo

Uniqlo Company Limited is a Japanese design, manufacturer and retailer of all things clothing apparel and casual wear. The company is a completely owned, as a subsidiary, of The Fast Retailing Company Group.

Uniqlo was independently founded in Yamaguchi, Japan, back in 1950 as a textile manufacturing company. Nowadays, it is a global clothing brand with upwards of 1,100 retail shops and stores spanning the world. Uniqlo has a focussed centre on quality and textiles, and now it is redefining casual clothing. All of which has been an unwavering endeavour since the company's origins in 1950.

As of late November 2019, the Uniqlo company had formally reported approximately 2,250 Uniqlo stores were operational globally.

Uniqlo opened its very first store in Australia in Melbourne in mid-2014. It eventually expanded into sunny Queensland the following year, with the opening of two clothing retail stores in Brisbane. Uniqlo then opened a clothing store in The Chadstone Shopping Centre in Victoria - which is renowned for being the largest shopping centre in the southern hemisphere after it was successfully redeveloped.

Currently, there are 20 retail stores in Australia, with shops also located in both Sydney and Perth.

Jil Sander, the German fashion designer, was hired by Uniqlo back in 2009, and she was appointed their creative director of the fashion brand's womenswear and menswear divisions. She made a huge success in this endeavour, going on to launch a new label with Uniqlo called "+J collection," which was awarded the Insurance Brit Design Fashion Award in 2011.
