BWS, or Beer, Wine, and Spirits, is an Australian liquor retail store chain which is owned by The Endeavour Group Ltd. The brand BWS considered the most comprehensive retailer of alcohol in Australia, with over 1,350 stores nationwide.
BWS began their liquor operations in June 2000 as a restricted neighbourhood bottle shop. BWS is part of the Woolworth's Endeavour Drinks Group brand, including Cellarmasters, Dan Murphy's, and Pinnacle Liquor. The very first BWS opened in Cabramatta, in western Sydney, on the same site as the Woolworths previously owned Mack's Liquor Store.
In 2012, a financial agreement was reached by Woolworths Liquor and BWS, where they were to share all liquor promotions, prices, and alcohol specials between the two labels. This became the very first business action towards the exercise of re-branding all Woolworths Liquor stores to become BWS stores.
These liquor stores now operate as stand-alone businesses, both financially and managerially, separated from the Woolworths supermarkets. The BWS stores remain nearby to Woolworths Supermarkets.
In recent times, BWS has been purchasing and transforming selected independent liquor stores to become BWS branded liquor stores. BWS also own beer brands, including Tun, John Boston, Arc Valley and Sail & Anchor via Pinnacle Drinks.
Consumers are of the opinion that BWS is a handy and convenient stand-alone liquor outlet, offering their customers a broad range of alcohol products, and selected liquor specials.
